One morning he dashed into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The here frightened villagers rushed up the hills to help but saw nothing threatening.

The boy giggled at the confusion on their faces. This trick laughed for a few days more. But, one day, a real wolf did attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as relevant today as it was in the past.
